Anger, Underneath: Why Anger Never Travels Alone (Free Feelings Graphic)

What's Underneath Anger?

Anger is the feeling people get stuck in most. It's loud, it's easy to name, and it feels like the whole story. It almost never is.

Underneath most anger are two gentler feelings standing side by side: sadness and fear. Anger rises up to protect them. And when shame is underneath too, the belief that you are bad rather than that you did something bad, anger has to work twice as hard. That's when it turns into rage.

I made this graphic for my clients, and I'm sharing it here for anyone who needs it. The next time anger rises, pause and ask: What am I afraid of? What have I lost? What don't I want anyone to see?

Feel free to share or embed this graphic. All I ask is a link back to this page.
